About Microneedling:
Professional Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is becoming increasingly popular because of the incredible results it produces with little pain and no downtime.
At Hello Smooth, we offer two types of microneedling, Radiofrequency Microneedling with the Genius RF Microneedling Device as well as traditional microneedling with the SkinPen Microneedling device. Both procedures involve puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles to create micro-injuries and stimulate the body’s natural healing response. This produces growth factors like collagen and elastin which helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, and stretch marks. The micro-channels created during microneedling can also act as channels for enhanced delivery of topical skin care treatments, which we like to call skin boosters.

The Difference:
The main difference between the two treatments is the addition of radiofrequency (RF) energy. RF Microneedling uses specialized “energized” needles to create micro-punctures along the skin while simultaneously delivering radiofrequency energy. This amplifies the production of skin improving proteins and enzymes like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Added RF energy also heats the underlayers of the skin which furthers skin tightening.
Enhanced Results
Generally, both RF Microneedling and traditional microneedling address a lot of the same skin concerns but RF Microneedling will provide enhanced results due to the addition of Radiofrequency energy. Genius RF Microneedling is able to reach the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the upper layers of the skin. The RF energy travels past the tip of each needle to stimulate collagen production deep in the skin for enhanced tightening. This can also helps break up scar matter better than just needle punctures in traditional microneedling. The device is also customizable so we can change needle depth and RF energy intensity based on each client’s needs.
In Conclusion
The bottom line is that neither treatment is better, it just depends on the client and how dramatic of results you’re looking for. If skin tightening is your main goal, RF Microneedling is most likely the ideal treatment for you. If you’re trying to heal acne or fine lines, SkinPen Microneedling might be best for you. On the other hand if you’re looking for more aggressive smoothing of wrinkles or working on a prominent scar, RF Microneedling might be better for you.
