Most people have heard the old adage you are what you eat. Eating healthy is a goal that many of us strive for, usually to help manage our weight or to battle a variety of health issues related to poor diet. But there are also things we can add or subtract from our diets that will have an impact on our overall body health as well. With a little research and meal planning, you can setup your weekly menu to be both delicious AND healthy, with a variety of options that help you feel better and look better as well.

Kicking your day off right with breakfast is important. Set the tone for healthy eating early in your day with some probiotic-rich yogurt to give your skin the kick it needs to start off a healthy day. Add some fresh fruit and blend it together for a delicious smoothie. The probiotics in the yogurt can aid the fight against common skin issues like acne and eczema, and the antioxidant properties of the fruit will give your skin a healthy glow.

For lunch, a salad may sound kind of meh, but adding some color, texture and flavor to your lite lunch choice can mean a boon of beauty for your skin. A big salad filled with avocado (Vitamin C & E), nuts (zinc) and some salmon (protein, Omega-3 fats) can really give your skin a big boost of healthy nutrients. Vitamins C & E help combat inflammation and zinc boosts your skin’s resilience and helps speed the healing of wounds. The salmon will give your skin cells a healthy dose of Omega-3 rich fatty acids, which is also a great benefit for healthier skin.

At dinner, why don’t you actually treat yourself to some carbs! Delicious whole grain carbs like brown rice added to your plate at dinner can give you and your skin a boost of Vitamin B, which helps hormone regulation, which in turn helps manage acne breakouts. Throw in some good, lean protein and fresh veggies and you’ve got yourself a meal that will taste delicious AND promote better overall health!
