Happy New Year! Another year and another batch of new year’s resolutions to strive towards. It’s a tradition as old as new year’s celebrations themselves. As December fades away, we begin to look forward to another shot at a clean slate. We take long, hard looks at ourselves in the mirror and decide that come January 1st, all those old habits that are keeping us from being our best selves will be thrown out with the old calendars. When we wake up on New Year’s Day, nothing will stand in our way to stop us from being the smoothest, coolest versions of ourselves we can imagine!
But then……reality sets in. We still have routines. Kids. Jobs. There’s no flash of light, no ringing bells, nothing that announces arrival of the new and improved you. Sticking to resolutions means being resolute. According to the fine folks at Merriam-Webster, it means being BOLD and steady. It’s no overnight thing to be able to better yourself, foryourself. It’s a path that you have to forge as you go.
One of the most common new year’s resolutions involves committing ourselves to getting into better shape, both literally and figuratively. It seems easy enough when you say it out loud: Step 1 — Eat better. Step 2 — Exercise more. Step 3 — Be in better shape. If it was this simple for everyone, we’d all be fit as fiddles. But the reality is, it’s not so simple to just change the way you function daily. It is a process that requires thought and effort to put into practice.
